Sopor Aeternus apenas necesita presentaciones. Este grupo gótico se ha construido una sólida reputación en nuestra escena a base de lanzar CDs llenos de música triste y original así como del misterio que rodea al único miembro del grupo: Anna-Varney. Al menos, el único miembro humano, ya que él afirma contar con el "Ensemble of Shadows", que le ayuda a "recibir la música". Las afirmaciones de Anna-Varney sobre su deseo de convertirse en mujer (reflejado en canciones como "The Jugglers of Jusa"), sus negativas a "dar conciertos para humanos" y sus aseveraciones según las cuales, por ejemplo, vive en una cueva con sus emisore espírituales, sólo han servido para dar más atractivo a una música ya de por sí excelente y que evoluciona de CD en CD, pasando del afterpunk de su primer lanzamiento a la música barroca y renacentista de las faces "Dead Lover´s Saraband" y la música medieval de otros de sus lanzamientos.
Sopor Aeternus es el único grupo que ha conseguido culminar la verdadera unión de la música gótica con la clásica y la medieval, y lo ha hecho inundando la música clásica (y la medieval) de un dramatismo omnipresente, apabullante e incluso exagerado, pero no por ello fuera de lugar. Si a uno le gusta la música gótica, conocer a este grupo, auque sea para rechazarlo, es imprescindible. No es recomendable, ni conveniente, sino imprescindible.
